When Home Is Not Where The Heart Is

The first question I get is always “What is Fernweh?” Answer: not my first name. Fernweh is a German word akin to wanderlust, but more extreme and with different means, though the ends may be the same. A person with wanderlust desires to travel. That is easy to understand. Fernweh is a yearning for places you’ve never been, or, quite literally, “far-sickness”. A person with wanderlust wants to travel. A person with fernweh can’t not travel. And I couldn’t think of a better way to describe my insatiable need to explore, to be away, to go.
